FREDERICK, Md.— Join archaeology lovers around the world in celebrating International Archaeology Day. The Archaeological Institute of America organizes International Archaeology Day, and the National Park Service is an official collaborating organization.
On Saturday, October 21, Monocacy National Battlefield will host International Archaeology Day from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Best Farm, 5106 Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD. Rangers will conduct an archaeological investigation on the battlefield prior to installing new interpretive signage. See if they find interesting artifacts and learn more about the history of the park through a hands-on artifact table. In addition, watch an atlatl demonstration and learn how this early weapon was used thousands of years ago for hunting and how we know it was used here.

Monocacy National Battlefield preserves, protects and commemorates the landscape, historic structures, archeological sites and monuments that contribute to the national significance of the Battle of Monocacy. The park also provides opportunities for visitors to understand and appreciate the significance of the Battle of Monocacy within the full context of the Civil War and American History.
