Union General William Tecumseh Sherman once noted that, “A battery of field artillery is worth a thousand muskets.” Join Monocacy National Battlefield September 2-3, 2017 to discover what made artillery so effective. Learn about the equipment, techniques, animals, and men who served in the artillery during the Civil War. Experience the thunderous roar of field artillery as it creates a soundscape not often heard.
Living historians representing Parker’s Battery will encamp at the Visitor Center over the weekend and demonstrate the firepower of a 10 pounder Parrott Rifle.

Saturday and Sunday:
- Artillery Firing Demonstrations:
- 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., & 2:00 p.m.
- Battle Orientation:
- 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., & 3:00 p.m.
