FREDERICK, Md.— The Battle of Monocacy, known as “The Battle That Saved Washington”, took place on July 9, 1864, as part of the third and final Confederate campaign into Maryland. July 7-9, 2023, Monocacy National Battlefield will commemorate the 159th Anniversary of the Battle of Monocacy with a Ranger-led auto tour and special event weekend.
Friday, July 7 – Ranger led caravan tour of the battlefield begins at the visitor center at 1:00 p.m. Please allow 2.5 hours.
Saturday, July 8, from 10 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, July 9, from 10 am – 4:00 pm. Programming will include Civil War music, a field hospital provided by the National Museum of Civil War, presentations about soldiers of the 14th New Jersey Volunteers and Veteran Reserve Corps in Washington D.C. by Stephen A. Goldman MD, and infantry and artillery firing by living historians.
All programs are free and activities will take place at the Monocacy National Battlefield Visitor Center: 5201 Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD 21704 .
