Pavement Preservation Project and Park Closures
A pavement preservation project will be taking place at Montezuma Castle, Montezuma Well and Tuzigoot over the next several weeks. For the most part, construction will reduce traffic to one lane with a pilot car controlling traffic.

Bird Walks at Montezuma Well and Tuzigoot National Monument will be moving to 8am in April and May to accommodate the warmer weather. Bird Walks will be on a summer hiatus and will resume in the fall.

Scheduled Maintenance at Montezuma Well Will Result in a Partial Closure of Main Trail
Maintenance workers at Montezuma Well expect a partial closure of the main loop trail. The trail from the irrigation canal (outlet trail) to the parking lot (return trail) will be closed for a full day on January 11th, 2017 to conduct hazard tree removal operations.

WINTER MAINTENANCE OF MONTEZUMA WELL IRRIGATION CANAL TO BE CONDUCTED THROUGH MID JANUARY
Maintenance workers at Montezuma Well will be diverting the water to the ditch at the outlet area for the month of December through mid-January, and access will be limited.

On Saturday, October 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Troop 1A of the Arizona Rough Riders Historical Association will commemorate the birthday and accomplishments of President Theodore Roosevelt and the contributions of northern Arizona's all-volunteer "Rough Riders" of the Spanish-American War of 1898.

Volunteers Needed for Monarch Butterfly Survey
On September 17th, 2016, rangers will be conducting a monarch butterfly survey at Montezuma Well and they need your help! From 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., rangers will lead volunteers through the process of catching, tagging and releasing migrating monarch butterflies as they head south to Mexico for the winter.

Traditional Stone Bead Manufacturing and Beadwork Demonstrations
Several programs are scheduled at Montezuma Castle National Monument in commemoration of the National Park Service celebrating its 100th anniversary. From August 25 to August 28, the 421 national parks, monuments and historic sites across the United States will be fee-free in honor of the NPS Centennial.

Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monuments will be joining national park units around the country as they waive entrance fees on Veterans Day in recognition of current and former service men and women.

Montezuma Castle Visitor Center Is 50 Years Old
To commemorate its upcoming 50th anniversary in 1966, the National Park Service initiated a 10-year program in 1956 to prepare it to meet the demands of the next 50 years. Dubbed "Mission 66", this effort gave birth to the visitor center, as we know it today. Fifty years ago this month, U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater cut the ribbon dedicating Montezuma Castle National Monument's new state of the art visitor center, a facility that was built as part of this initiative.

National Park Service Announces New "Green Ranger" Program for Kids at Montezuma Well
The National Park Service will be starting a new youth program called the "Green Rangers" targeting kids around the ages of 9-12 to learn about native plants and habitat restoration at Montezuma Well. Kids will be working with park natural resource staff to plant and collect native seed and help weed invasive plants in the Native Pollinator and Hopi Garden areas at Montezuma Well.
