MUD

“I start to school in the morning,
And my shoes are spic-and-span
When I come home at noon-time
They’re like a muddy van.
“I wish the mud would go away
And all the muddy pools,
But I guess that nothing can fix that up,
Including all the tools.”

- Kleinkopf Diary

Christmas Ration

“This year I pity Santa Claus
Although everyone knows the cause
There won’t be very much candy
And that doesn’t seem so very dandy.
“It isn’t so good to have things on ration,
But it’s that way in the whole wide nation.
This year’s Xmas won’t be such a treat,
Especially if we don’t have any meat.
“But we have to be real Americans,
Just like the Pilgrims or Puritans,
We have to go without some things
And take just what Old Santa brings."
