Martin Van Buren ran two failed presidential campaigns from Lindenwald and continued to be active in politics for the rest of his life. Van Buren certainly did not consider his career over when he moved back to Kinderhook, and this was much more than a retirement home. The Election of 1844In 1844, Van Buren would unsuccessfully seek the Democratic nomination. The Election of 1848In 1848 Van Buren's retirment at Lindenwald was interrupted by one final call to run fo the office of President of the United States. |
