Los Alamos: Enjoy the Outdoors

In northern New Mexico, a maze of canyons divides the Pajarito Plateau into scenic mesas and a recreational wonderland. At J. Robert Oppenheimer’s urging, the Manhattan Project established its top-secret lab on one of the mesas. The director of the Los Alamos Laboratory thought the views and recreational opportunities would lift the spirits of all who lived in the secret city. Like those before, visitors to Los Alamos can enjoy the desert trails, expansive vistas, and plentiful wildlife.
