Manassas National Battlefield Park invites you to a commemoration of Juneteenth National Independence Day.

Join park staff and our partners from the Manassas Battlefield Trust at 2pm on Monday, 19 June 2023, for a special behind-the-scenes walking tour around the historic cross-roads community of Groveton.

Park staff have recently created the foundation and outline for a blacksmith shop exhibit in Groveton. Historically, this corner of the intersection was the site of Andrew Redman’s blacksmith shop. Redman was born into enslavement in 1831. In the 1870s, he was listed as a blacksmith and had bought land from Lucinda Dogan, the daughter of the man who had enslaved him.

This program will highlight the story of Andrew Redman, enslavement and freedom in Prince William County, and the park's plans for interpreting the diverse, untold stories of Groveton. This exhibit and future work on and around the site has been made possible through a National Park Foundation grant awarded to the park’s official friends group, the Manassas Battlefield Trust.

Parking for the program is at 6702 Groveton Road, Manassas, VA, 20109
