DKMC Walk Weekend Dupont-Kalorama Museum Walk Weekend Saturday, June 4, 10am - 4pm & Sunday, June 5, 2011 1pm - 4pm Washington, D.C. — The National Park Service in collaboration with the Dupont Kalorama Museums Consortium (DKMC) will host an annual event established in 1983 to promote off the mall museums and their neighborhoods. The public is invited to visit the eight DKMC museums during Walk Weekend. The Mary McLeod Bethune Council House National Historic Site's Walk Weekend events will include: June 4, 2011 10:00 a.m. - 4:00p.m. Groomed for Greatness Session One: "Walking and Talking Like A Queen" This session will explore the experiences of local Queens featuring Miss Black Maryland USA offering advice. Discussions will include topics related to image enhancement and oral presentation skills with young girls. Live Demonstrations: The Queens will also perform live demonstrations in which youth are encouraged to take part. In an Artistic Celebration community women and student-scholars will perform in a variety of musical styles. Women of Relevancy Workshop Keynote Speaker: Pulitzer Prize Winning Journalist Cynthia Tucker will speak to visitors about the legacy of Mrs. Bethune and women like her who worked diligently to change the inter-national perception of African American Women legacy. Book Signing Lisa Owens, Miss Howard University 1984 and entrepreneur, unveils her new book, Dance Ministry Basics: A Foundation for God's Dancers, signs copies, and talks about her rise to success through performing arts. Crowns & Tiaras Arts and Crafts Local Queens and site staff will help children fashion fun tiaras and fascinators. June 5, 2011 1:00 p.m. - 4:00p.m. Jazz Garden Reception The award winning composer and saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk will be our featured Jazz Garden Reception musician along with his trio. Book Signing Dr. Ida Jones will discuss her book "The Heart of the Race Problem: The Life of Kelly Miller" which will be on sale in our gift shop. Going Green Arts and Crafts Arts and crafts for children ages 8 - 12 will also be available along with tips to help local families make going green fun.
