This exhibition, entitled "Memphis To Atlanta: 50 Forward" examines the final days of Martin Luther King, Jr's . life as he journeyed to Memphis, Tennessee, campaigning on behalf of poor sanitation workers to his final return home to Atlanta, Georgia, for the April 9th funeral, where thousands mourned his April 4th assassination. The exhibit features the funeral wagon that carried Rev. King’s casket in the procession from historic Ebenezer Baptist Church to the public memorial service at Morehouse College on April 9, 1968. The exhibit will also feature the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the King Center and the re-designation of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park. This exhibition opens April 5, 2018 and runs through April 9, 2019 in the D.R.E.A.M. Gallery located inside of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park's visitor center, adjacent to the permanent exhibition area. |
