About
Lowell National Historical Park, one of over 400 units in the National Park System in the United States, interprets and preserves significant historical and cultural resources from the 19th-century American Industrial Revolution. The Park includes a 142-acre Park District and an adjacent and overlapping 583-acre Historic Preservation District. Lowell National Historical Park represents an innovative park concept that provides for an historical/cultural park in a living, working, urban environment.
Created in 1978, the Park was given a unique mandate which called for the Park to not only preserve and interpret the resources representing Lowell's role in the 19th century American industrial revolution but also to serve as a catalyst in revitalizing the city's physical, economic and cultural environments.
