Enacting Legislation

The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act is codified in Title 16 of United States Code 1278. The Congressional Act specifically authorizing the Lower Delaware as a National Wild & Scenic River is Public Law 106-418 of November 1, 2000.


Regulations Governing National Wild & Scenic Rivers

The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government. It is divided into 50 titles that represent broad areas subject to Federal regulation. An electronic copy of 36 CFR 297 for Wild & Scenic Rivers is available through the Government Printing Office's Federal Digital System (http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/granule/CFR-2012-title36-vol2/CFR-2012-title36-vol2-part297).

Partnership rivers are administered differently from Wild and Scenic Rivers that run through National Park units, such as Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. Firearms and National Wild & Scenic Rivers

Many National Wild & Scenic Rivers include federal facilities.The Lower Delaware National Wild & Scenic River does not include federal facilities. Firearms may be prohibited in the state and local parks included within the Lower Delaware.

The role of the responsible gun owner is to know and obey the federal, state and local laws appropriate to the park they are visiting.
