Learn More about Education Programs for Your Classroom

School Group Tours

Bring your class to the John Muir National Historic Site. This is an opportunity to learn about John Muir, his life and his legacy. A ranger will explain the specifics of the program at the time your reservation is confirmed by the park. We are able to adapt the program to meet the learning needs of the school group. Our educational program aligns with the California state educational standards and contains a mix of open-ended questions and interactive exercises. It consists of a small group activity about National Parks, an exploration of the 1882 Italianate Victorian mansion John Muir lived in for the last 24 years of his life and a visit to the Giant sequoia John Muir planted over 130 years ago.

Reserving a Classroom Visit!

Our park now has an online reservation form for educators. Currently, this park only provides a "Park Visit" reservation opportunity for classrooms, but may eventually offer other forms of ranger interaction.

Please Read Before Making a Reservation Request:

  • Only Tuesdays and Thursdays are currently available for reserving a school group tour.
  • Homeschool groups are welcome to come for the daily scheduled house tours and watch the film.
  • See "Special Rules" on the lower part of this page.
  • See "Bus Parking Directions" on the lower part of this page.
