Work With Us Through Internship Programs

John Muir NHS has an active internship program, offering various opportunities throughout the year. The goals of our internship program are to provide work, education and training opportunities for youth and young adults through collaborative participation in the resources management, maintenance, interpretation, and community outreach efforts at John Muir National Historic Site.

The objectives are to provide opportunities for development and training of local interns hired through various partner organizations who will work with the NPS Resource Management, Interpretation/Education, and Facilities staff to fulfill important NPS tasks and operations. The internship program trains interns in NPS careers, environmental awareness and job skills that can be transferred to future careers.

This program also offers youth and young adults an opportunity to learn about the important local natural and cultural history and serve as community ambassadors to help promote education and outreach efforts. Park housing (including RV or camping space) is not available. Members of the local community are encouraged to apply. Depending on internship opportunity, youth and young adults between ages 16 – 30 are eligible.

Benefits of national park internships:

  • Paid living allowance (amount varies with position)
  • Training opportunities
  • Opportunity to build professional networks.
  • Public Land Corps hiring eligibility (after completing all requirements)
