Join rangers on July 4 and July 8 for public readings of the Declaration of Independence on the front lawn of the Garfield home.

Join rangers in a public reading of the Declaration of Independence from the front porch of the Garfield Home to commemorate the 250th birthday of the United States. The Declaration will also be read on July 8, which marks the first day the document was read aloud in public. Audience members will be chosen to read selected parts.
On July 4, assemble on the front lawn of the Garfield home at 10 am, noon, 2 pm and 4 pm. Each reading will be about 20 minutes.Visitors are invited to self-guide through the Garfield home during a public open house from 10am-4:30pm. Entry to the house will pause while the Declaration is being read. No guided tours will occur on July 4 due to expected increase in visitation.
On July 8, please gather at 12 pm and 2pm. Regular public tours will be offered throughout this day.
