Join a ranger at Indiana Dunes National Park’s Heron Rookery on Saturday, April 23rd and 30th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for two-hour woodland wildflower hikes. The Heron Rookery is one of the best locations in the region to see spring wildflowers. Be prepared for muddy conditions.

The national park began charging an entrance fee on March 31, 2022. The fee is $25 per car for a 1–7-day pass. A $45 annual pass for the Indiana Dunes National Park is also available. Holders of the following federal passes will not pay an entrance fee: Annual, Senior, Veterans/Military/Gold Star Family, 4th Grade, Access (disability), and the Volunteer Pass. For more information on other national park passes and details about the new fee, go to www.nps.gov/indu. Please purchase passes or pay entrance fees at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, Paul H. Douglas Center, West Beach or at www.recreation.gov/sitepass/indu. When parking, display pass or receipt on the rearview mirror or dashboard.

The hike starts from the Heron’s Rookery’s east parking lot, which is located at 1336 North County Road 600E in Michigan City. The GPS coordinates are 41.626948, -86.951566 (decimal degrees).
