INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: At approximately 4:00 p.m. today, while visiting the West Beach unit of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, one of the members of a group of 13 adults and children notified National Park Service lifeguards on duty at the beach that a five year old boy had gone missing. The lifeguards started a land and water search. After approximately ten minutes, one of the lifeguards found the missing child below the water about 20 yards from the shore. The boy was brought to shore where he immediately received emergency medical care, was transferred to the advance life support unit of the Portage Fire Department, transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary and then airlifted to Children's Hospital of Chicago No further details are available. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is part of the National Park Service.
