Join members from regional astronomical societies as they share their telescopes and introduce visitors to the night sky on Saturday, July 27, from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm Central Time at Indiana Dunes National Park’s Kemil Beach parking lot.
While telescopes will be available, feel free to bring binoculars or a telescope from home. Learn about the celestial objects of the season and the benefits of natural night darkness and dark-sky friendly lighting. Stargazing will be held on the fourth Saturday of every month throughout 2019.
This month, Jupiter's moon, Io, will cast its shadow on Jupiter and the Great Red Spot is visible. Saturn and its rings, the Hercules globular cluster and the Lyra Ring Nebula are also visible. The summer Milky Way will be directly overhead and the Eta Aquariid meteor shower may be visiible.
The Kemil Beach parking lot is located on East State Park Road (300E), one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 and three miles east of State Road 49.
