Date: February 20, 2018

Join staff and visitors on Saturday, February 24 from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Visitor Center for a Science Saturday presentation examining how climate affects the ecology of sugar maple trees.

Dr. Joshua Rapp of the University of Massachusetts is utilizing the help of citizen scientists at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and around the country to help answer that question. Following an indoor presentation on the study, everyone will be invited to drive to the Bailly Chellberg Parking Lot on Mineral Springs Road and walk to the site of the sugar bush where the research is taking place. For the outdoor portion of the program, participants should wear boots and dress for the weather.  If the sap is flowing, visitors will be encouraged to try their hand at data collection.

The Indiana Dunes Visitor Center is located at 1215 North State Road 49, about one mile north of Interstate 94. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, call 219-395-1882 or visit our website and our Facebook page.
