A hiker was walking along the old road when they saw a pickup truck with the engine running parked along the road. As they approached the vehicle they noticed an individual slumped over with a gun in their hand located in the driver's seat. The hiker then reported the incident to the Beverly Shores Police Department.

The individual removed from the vehicle has been identified as Penny M. Tracy, 42, of Portage, Indiana. When found, officers observed what appeared to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Porter County Coroner's office and transported to Porter Regional Hospital.
