INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL PARK: Your fee dollars are at work on stunning Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Pavilion at Indiana Dunes National Park. The interior of the pavilion will receive a fresh coat of paint and a new flooring will be installed. Cabinets will also be constructed in the classroom area. The construction will close the facility to the public immediately and will continue through March 31st, 2024. Access to the beach, trails, and breakwater will still be available to the public during the renovation work.
Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk was opened in October 2008. The 3,500 square foot public pavilion includes restrooms, a seasonal snack bar, and a glass walled classroom/multi-purpose space. This unique classroom space is available for short-term rentals; the price varies by duration and day of activity, between $200.00 and $400.00.
The pavilion is a Gold LEED certified building. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a program of the U.S. Green Building Council. The public facilities were designed and developed to minimize their impact on the reclaimed landscape.
