In celebration of the National Park Service's 100th Anniversary, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and the Dunes Learning Center are bringing the Northwest Indiana Symphony to West Beach on Saturday, August 27, at 7:30 p.m. for a free concert with the magnificent dunes as the backdrop.

Enjoy the 40 piece symphony orchestra under the direction of Conductor Kirk Muspratt for a two hour performance of music selected to fit this anniversary year. The stage will be set up in the southwest parking lot at West Beach. Limited seating is available near the stage; therefore, visitors are encouraged to bring folding chairs. Several food vendors will be serving a variety of dinner items or participants can bring a picnic dinner. Alcohol is prohibited at West Beach. Fee collection at West Beach will cease at 5 p.m. that day. Please carpool if possible.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be relocated to the Chesterton High School Auditorium, entrance/door 31. Information concerning inclement weather will be posted at the entrance to West Beach, on the park's website at www.nps.gov/indu, and on the park's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/IndianaDunesNL.

The National Park Service invites visitors of all ages to join in the celebration of its 100th birthday throughout the month of August. With special events across the country, and free admission to all 412 national parks from August 25 through August 28, the NPS is encouraging everyone to #FindYourPark / #EncuentraTuParque for the centennial.

"August –our birthday month –will be a nationwide celebration of national parks, and we're inviting everyone to the party," said National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis. "We like to think that we look pretty good for 100, and with so many events and activities to commemorate this milestone, we hope all Americans will join us to celebrate the breathtaking landscapes and inspiring history in our nation's parks and public lands. Whether it is in a distant state or in your own community, there are hundreds of ways and places to find your park."
