Kids of all ages are invited to celebrate National Nature Play Day at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education at Indiana Dunes National Park on Saturday, June 15, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Today’s children gravitate to gaming systems and other indoor activities. Few kids spend time outdoors these days and the consequences can be profound and far reaching.

The National Nature Play Day activities will include building forts, hiking in Miller Woods, doing a free craft activity, and feeding our resident fish, turtles, snakes, toads, and frogs. Parents can watch their children’s creativity blossom during these relaxing two hours. Rangers will lead the free program and there is no need to pre-register.

The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located in the western portion of the national park at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 in the Miller neighborhood of Gary. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Park, call 219-395-1882 or visit our website at www.nps.gov/indu and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/IndianaDunesNPS.
