INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Join Hammond High School art students as they showcase their nature art at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore's Paul H. Douglas Center on Saturday, April 13, from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. These students have studied the flora and fauna of the national lakeshore during the semester and have created unique pieces of artwork in watercolor or mixed media that will be on display at the center for the summer. The student artists will be on hand to answer questions during the reception.

Family Day at the Douglas Center is offered every Saturday afternoon and gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy hands-on exhibits, make a free craft or help feed the center's resident fish and turtles. They can also hike the Miller Woods Trail and then warm up inside with a free snack, hot chocolate or coffee and watch the park's introductory video. The new nature play area just outside the center can be previewed before its official opening on April 23.

The Douglas Center is located at 100 North Lake Street in the Miller section of Gary. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, contact the Douglas Center at 219-395-1821 or check the park website at
