The National Park Service (NPS) has issued the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the “Wabash Avenue/Porter Access Site for Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore”. The FONSI document can be found online at
The selected alternative includes coordination with the Town of Porter to improve the sidewalk along Wabash Avenue for visitor safety and to improve accessibility. The national lakeshore will correct problems associated with the foot-wash station, and restore the dune north of the town parking lot. Based on input from the public additional parking, a pavilion with picnic tables and a new traffic circulation pattern were not included in the preferred alternative.

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is part of the National Park Service. More than 20,000 National Park Service employees care for America’s 401 national parks and work with communities across the nation to help preserve local history and create close-to-home recreational opportunities.
