Join a ranger for several opportunities to climb to the top of famous Mount Baldy in July. Even though the dune’s summit is closed for general public use, these ranger-led events allow visitors to experience the beauty and spectacular views from the tallest dune in Indiana Dunes National Park.
Guided hikes to the summit occur every Friday in July, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Bring your camera to capture the spectacular views. In addition, Mt. Baldy Open Houses are offered every Sunday in July, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Please arrive by 3:30 pm to give yourself enough time to complete the hike to the summit. There will be rangers in the parking lot and on the summit providing information about how Mount Baldy formed and why it is moving.
Please note that the Mount Baldy parking lot and beach are open everyday from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. The dune itself, however, is still closed for general public use. We strongly ask the public to respect and follow posted closure signs and stay out of roped-off areas. The dune is still closed for reasons of public safety and resource protection.
Please meet at the Mount Baldy parking lot, located just off of U.S. Highway 12, just west of Michigan City, Indiana. No reservations are required.
