Join a ranger at Indiana Dunes National Park’s Paul H. Douglas Center on Sunday, August 25, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, for a “Wonders of Wildlife” program focusing on the fascinating life of the monarch butterfly.
The monarch butterfly is one of the most recognizable species in North America and it’s in trouble. Pesticide use and habitat loss are destroying many of the milkweed plants that monarchs need to survive. Learn some simple things that you can do to help while enjoying fun, family-friendly activities.
Complete a monarch craft project and watch a special video inside the center. Then go out on the trail through Miller Woods to search for monarch butterflies. There is no need to pre-register and this program is free.
The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 in the Miller neighborhood of Gary. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Park, call 219-395-1882 or visit our website at www.nps.gov/indu and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/
