Join monarch butterfly researcher Johanna Nifosi on Saturday, October 13, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, as she shares current data collected about monarch butterflies in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. This program takes place at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education.
Johanna will share how climate change effects disease in monarch butterflies. One of the greatest concerns is a micro-organism wrinkles adult butterfly wings, decreasing their longevity and reproductive success.
Afterwards, make a free monarch butterfly craft and enjoy the center’s hands-on exhibits and outdoor nature play zone where families can build a fort, rock tower, or identify various plants and animals.
The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located in the western portion of the national lakeshore at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 in the Miller neighborhood of Gary. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, call 219-395-1882 or visit our website and our Facebook page.
