What: The media is invited to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the park's newest trail addition:  the accessible boardwalk of the Miller Woods Trail at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, we will offer a short hike. This new boardwalk is made with all American steel fabricated by Wickcraft, a company out of Madison, WI, to be fire retardant and long lasting. The boardwalk makes a significant portion of the Miller Woods Trail wheelchair accessible. Since this trail is used by thousands of school students each year, it will meet a critical need to get all students access to nature in their national park.

Who: In addition to representatives from the National Park Service, we anticipate several other partners being present for the ribbon cutting. The ribbon cutting is the kick-off for our annual Green Gary Earth Day event which we sponsor in partnership with Gary Parks Department and the Gary Department of Green Urbanism/MS4. Many partners have been involved in getting this project completed including the park's primary education partner, the Dunes Learning Center. This project has been a goal of the Miller Spotlight and its access committee to get more accessible trails within the community.
Where: Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore's Paul H. Douglas Center, 100 N. Lake Street, Gary, Indiana.46403
