INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Celebrate summer on Saturday, June 21 with a traditional Midsummer Celebration from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and a Summer Solstice Evening Concert from 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s historic Chellberg Farm.
Take part in an afternoon of traditional dance, children’s activities and other summer fun as you learn how the area’s Swedish immigrants celebrated Midsummer, the longest day of the year. A highlight of the event is the raising of a newly decorated Maypole at 1:15 p.m. You can even bring flowers from home and help in the age-old custom of decorating the Maypole. The afternoon will also feature the children's dance group, Nordikids and Dans Norden, a group from Indianapolis, who will perform wearing colorful, traditional costumes.
Enjoy the end of the longest day of the year with an early evening concert at Chellberg Farm. This outdoor concert features Chris Vallillo, a nationally acclaimed singer/songwriter and folk musician, who strives to "make the people and places of ‘unmetropolitan’ America come to life in song." You may want to bring a blanket or chair, insect repellent, or even a picnic for your family and friends. The concert, presented in partnership with the Friends of Indiana Dunes, may be moved to the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center in case of inclement weather.
