Date: June 16, 2017
Celebrate summer on Saturday, June 24 with a traditional Midsummer Celebration from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s historic Chellberg Farm.
Take part in an afternoon of traditional dance, children’s activities and other summer fun as you learn how the area’s Swedish immigrants celebrated Midsummer, the longest day of the year. A highlight of the event is the raising of a newly decorated Maypole at 1:15 p.m. You can even bring flowers from home and help in the age-old custom of decorating the Maypole.
Enjoy colorfully-costumed performances by a local children's dance group, Nordikids, and the Indianapolis group Dans Norden as they perform traditional favorites. Guest speaker Kenneth Schoon, author of the book “Dreams of Duneland”, will share some stories on local history. In addition to the celebration, be sure to visit Chellberg Farm’s barn and chicken coop to see the farm’s animals.
