Spend a part of your Saturday afternoon with local heroes. Members of the Tuskegee Air Men, a dedicated group who enlisted to become America’s first black military airman, will be at the Paul H. Douglas Center in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Find out more about your hometown heroes during a special open house presentation at 2:00p.m.Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Douglas Center on North Lake Street in the Miller section of Gary, Indiana.

The National Park Service is hosting the Tuskegee Airmen in a conversation to learn about the trials and triumphs of their service. Find out more about our local heroes of the 332nd and how these brave and brilliant men used this experience to become some of our nation’s greatest leaders. Learn about the vital service these African American men provided and how their excellence opened opportunities and careers for men of color during and after World War II.

The conversation with the Tuskegee Airman is just one of several open house programs at the Douglas Center this summer. All programs are free and open to the public. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, please call (219) 395-1821 or visit
