INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: If your family is looking for an alternative to haunted houses and scary Halloween activities, enjoy a Halloween adventure with a nature and history theme on Saturday, October 27 between 9 am - 3 pm at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore's Paul H. Douglas Center.

Did you ever wonder how Halloween became part of the American culture? Then discover the answer during a 2 pm program by Miller Historical Society president, Cullen Daniel. While the adults are listening to the presentation, children can make a Halloween nature craft or play games with park staff and volunteers.

Throughout the day, visitors will be challenged to take part in an outdoor "treasure hunt" to look for signs of nature along the Miller Woods Trail. Clues will be scattered along the trail guiding families along and helping them explore the changing of the seasons. Small prizes will be given to families who participate in this activity. Afterwards, go inside the center to enjoy the interactive exhibits and warm up with hot chocolate or coffee.
The Douglas Center is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm every day, except Sunday. The center is located at 100 North Lake Street in the western portion of the national lakeshore.
