The Glenwood Dunes Trail system at Indiana Dunes National Park has been temporarily closed due to extensive flooding to protect both park resources and the public’s safety. The flooding, up to three feet deep in some sections, is a hazard to both hikers and equestrian users of the trail. The recent heavy rains, and possibly beaver activity, may be the cause of the flooding. Park staff is surveying the trail to determine what can be done to mitigate the problem. The closure is limited to 30 days and will be shortened if the flooding subsides sooner. The parking lot and picnic tables at the trailhead remain open.
During this closure, hikers will still have access to more than 42 miles of other trails at Indiana Dunes National Park. These trails include the Dune Ridge, Paul Douglas Trail in Miller Woods, West Beach, Portage Lakefront, Baily/Chellberg, Little Calumet River Heron Rookery, and the Pinhook Bog Upland Trail.
