On Saturday, November 3, enjoy stories and songs about Great Lakes shipwrecks from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center. Join a ranger for a program called, “The Gales of November” that will focus on what makes Great Lakes storms so treacherous and on the approximately 6,000 shipwrecks at the bottom of Lake Michigan. Some wrecks, like that of the JD Marshall, are located just offshore from the Indiana Dunes.

This program also features local folk musician, Jim Nelson. His performance includes songs about sailing and shipwrecks that range in mood from spirited to melancholy.

The Indiana Dunes Visitor Center is located at 1215 North State Road 49, about one mile north of Interstate 94. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, call 219-395-1882 or visit our website and our Facebook page.
