This summer, Indiana Dunes National Park features a wider variety of food and beverage options for the millions of visitors who are expected to visit the dunes. Food vendors will regularly operate at the national park’s West Beach and Portage Lakefront while others will pop up at a wide variety of park locations.

At West Beach, Kona’s Succession Concession operates out of the bath house Monday–Friday from 12:00 pm-5:00 pm and on weekends from 11:30 am-6:00 pm. In addition to Kona Ice products, their menu features hot dogs, pretzels, nachos, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches along with other snacks, soft drinks and beach merchandise.

At Portage Lakefront, the Dig the Dunes Trail Stop, located in the pavilion, is open weekdays from 3:00 pm to sunset and weekends, 11:00 am to sunset. The Trail Stop’s menu includes pizza, fresh hummus, pretzels, trail mix, tamales, ice cream and cookies to go along with soft drinks and a rotating selection of local beers and wine. A baked “dog cookie” is also available in addition to merchandise.

Additional food and drink vendors will operate regularly but may pop up at any of the following locations depending on weather and visitation: Porter Beach’s North Lot, Kemil Beach, West Beach Parking Lot, Chellberg Farm and the Dunewood Campground.

These mobile vendors are Lonesome Pine Coffee, Thursday–Sunday, 10:00 am-4:00 pm, Menu: coffees, lattes, macchiato, mocha, iced coffees, hot chocolate and tea, lemonade, cookies and croissants. Popcorn World, daily, 11:00 am-6:00 pm. Menu: pre-packaged popcorn & bottled soft drinks. Day Dreams & Ice Cream, intermittent days from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Menu - ice cream & popsicles.

Another new service this summer doesn’t involve food. To help visitors avoid full parking lots and beaches were social distancing is difficult, the national park established a Beach Parking Info Line.  Call 219-395-1003 to get recorded information on available parking at Indiana Dunes National Park beaches and the nearby Indiana Dunes State Park. This information line is updated regularly during beach season between the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.

The National Park Service invites self-contained food service vendors to apply to operate in Indiana Dunes National Park. Federal regulations require vendors to obtain a Commercial Use Authorization permit. All inquiries are welcome. Please visit www.nps.gov/indu, or send an email to Stephanie_Manuszak@nps.gov to find out more and get an application.
