Central Avenue Beach, located in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, has been temporarily closed due to the flooding of an access road. Beverly Drive, in the Town of Beverly Shores, has been closed between Montana Avenue and US 12 to the east. The duration of the closure is not yet known and the cause of the flooding is being investigated.

The closure has also forced the moving of a national lakeshore program. The Orienteering! program scheduled for Sunday, April 9 at 1:00 pm has been moved to the national lakeshore’s Miller Woods. Meet for the program at the parking lot of the Paul. H. Douglas Center located at 100 N. Lake Street in Gary, Indiana. For more information, call the national lakeshore’s information desk at 219-395-1882 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Despite this temporary closure of Central Avenue Beach, over 13 miles of beach remains open to the public. National lakeshore beaches that remain open include West Beach, Porter, Kemil, Dunbar and Lakeview. In addition, the neighboring Indiana Dunes State Park remains open.
