MEDIA INVITATION

You are invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 7th at 10:00 a.m. celebrating the opening of the Field Station Cooperative’s new facility at 399 Howe Rd. in Porter, just past the Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center. An open house will follow.

Congressman Peter Visclosky, Park Superintendent Dale Engquist, Todd Zeiger of the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, and others will be speaking.

The Field Station, in partnership with the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, has renovated a historic barn located within the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore for use as the school’s primary learning facility.

An outpouring of support from local organizations and businesses along with the hard work of many parents made the improbable barn project a reality.

Its new location within the National Lakeshore is ideal for its nature-based programs. The mission of the school is to increase children’s exposure to the outdoors while providing a well-rounded learning experience. Ultimately, environmental consciousness and respect for nature are developed in both students and parents.

The Field Station currently has over 80 preschoolers enrolled and is expanding its program to include after school programs for elementary-aged children.
