INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL PARK: On Saturday, February 29, educators, naturalists, scout leaders, and other youth leaders who work with students in grades K-12 are invited to try their hands at a wide variety of activities they can use to teach about wildlife and natural resources during a Project Wild Educator’s Workshop at Indiana Dunes National Park.

The event will be held at the park’s Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education and will run from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Each participant who completes the full workshop will receive a newly published Project Wild activity guide filled with interdisciplinary activities which are hands-on, easy to use and fun. The new guide was released in 2019 and includes new and adapted activities as well as field investigations. Dr. Eric Larsen, Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Chicago, will be a guest presenter at the workshop and will share about a project to census small mammal populations, an activity which ties in nicely with the new guide.

There is a registration fee of $35 which covers lunch, the Project Wild Activity Guide, and supplemental materials. Formal educators can receive professional growth points for participating in the workshop.

Pre-registration is required by February 21, and registration is limited. To register, visit the Events at Dunes Learning Center Web page or call the Dunes Learning Center at 219-395-9555. The workshop is co-sponsored by Indiana Dunes National Park, the Indiana DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife, the Great Lakes Research and Education Center, and Dunes Learning Center with support from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
