Starting on May 15, visitors will be able to reserve a campsite at Indiana Dunes National Park’s Dunewood Campground. Previously, all 66 campsites were on a first-come, first served, basis. Under the new system, 34 of the sites will be reservable up to six months in advance making it easier to plan a trip to the national park. The remaining 32 sites will still be on a first-come basis. The price for a campsite remains the same at $25 per night.

The National Park Service just completed a month-long, public comment period about this new reservation system. Comments were overwhelmingly positive. Many people living out of state mentioned they could never get a site under the previous system while locals were generally pleased that some sites would remain on a first-come basis.

The online reservation system, at www.recreation.gov, goes live on May 15, 2019 CDT at 9:00 AM. Reservations can be made for up to six months in advance for Dunewood Campground. The campground is open April through October. For more information, contact the national park’s information desk at 219-395-1882 or visit the website at www.nps.gov/indu.
