Dunes Learning Center, located in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore,  invites the public to become campers for an afternoon of family fun in nature on Saturday, January 13, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

This free event offers families a day of indoor and outdoor fun led by the center’s team of knowledgeable naturalists. Activities include guided hikes, crafts, nature games, and live music, as well as opportunities to learn about winter ecology through hands-on education programs. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served. There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required. Space is limited. For more information and to register, visit DunesLearningCenter.org/events. Follow the Dunes Learning Center on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

“This is a great way for the public to explore our Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore campus in winter and experience firsthand the acclaimed naturalist-led programs that are usually only available to visiting classrooms,” said Geof Benson, executive director of Dunes Learning Center. “We can all benefit from being a kid for a day!”

Event partners and sponsors include ArcelorMittal, BP, Enbridge, Friends of Indiana Dunes, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, and NIPSCO. Arts activities made possible, in part, with support from the Indiana Arts Commission, South Shore Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Dunes Learning Center provides year-round curriculum and standards-based experiential environmental education programs for learners of all ages. Programs inspire curiosity, scientific literacy, environmental stewardship and community involvement. Located within Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the campus occupies 63 acres of rolling woodland at the southern tip of Lake Michigan and is located less than an hour from Chicago.

Dunes Learning Center is located at 700 Howe Road in Porter, IN between U.S. Highways 12 and 20 on the grounds of the historic Camp Good Fellow. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, call 219-395-1882 or visit our website and our Facebook page.
