Date: November 21, 2017

The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education will be closed for construction December 1, 2017 to approximately May 2018.  The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system will be replaced during the closure. The new HVAC system will have a “greener” footprint while making the building more comfortable and efficient to operate.

Visitors can still enjoy the Miller Woods Trail for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, birding, and other outdoor activities. However, there will be no recreational equipment checkout from the center while construction is underway and visitors will have to provide their own gear. The parking lots will remain open, but the restrooms will not be accessible during the closure. Program offerings may change at this time, so visit the calendar section on our webpage before you plan your visit.

The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located in the western portion of the national lakeshore at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 in the Miller section of Gary.
