INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Join the celebration at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education. Enjoy a program about national parks that tell Dr. King's story, and participate in a community service project outside the center. Following the program, take up the challenge of service. Dr. King once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?' " Join in preserving and protecting the resources of the national lakeshore for future generations. Help remove invasive honeysuckle bushes which threaten the health of Miller Woods' oak savanna. The work is easy and suitable for ages thirteen and older. The whole family can participate and there will be special projects for younger hands. All tools and safety equipment will be provided. The Douglas Center is located at 100 North Lake Street in the Miller section of Gary, Indiana. For more information on this and other programs at the national lakeshore, call the park's information desk at 219-395-1882 or check out the website at: www.nps.gov/indu. |
