Make it a beach day! Join rangers every Saturday from June 16 through September 1 starting at 1:00 pm and lasting until 30 minutes past sunset at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s West Beach. Activities will include kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, a sunset hike, and a beach campfire. Try out a kayak or paddleboard starting at 2:00 pm. All equipment is provided for free. A one-hour sunset hike on the Dune Succession Trail will start from the Ranger Contact Station located in the north end of the West Beach parking lot. This trail offers stunning views of the sunset over Lake Michigan with the Chicago skyline as a backdrop. A beach campfire, complete with marshmallow toasting, will start shortly before sunset.
There is a $6 per car parking fee charged until 7:00 pm. Please bring a picnic dinner and don’t forget warmer clothing for the evening sunset and beach campfire. Meet at the West Beach parking lot located at 376 North County Line Road in Portage.
