Indiana Dunes National Park offers a wide range of programming options. Click on the drop boxes below to view details about Ranger-led program offerings. Programs will be added to our offerings when applicable – please check back often. Please note that program offerings are subject to change. If you’re interested in a self-guided program, you still need to fill out the Education Reservation Inquiry Form. Refer to the map below to see where most of the Ranger-led programs take place. Be sure to remember your chosen program and enter it into the "Program Name or Subject Requested/Self-Guided" section of the Education Reservation Inquiry Form that you will be filling out. Include the location(s) where you would like to visit in the park. Are you interested in leading your class/group on a self-guided hike? Most park locations are available for self-guided programs. Even though you’re not requesting a ranger, please follow the steps in requesting a program reservation. The Education Team will respond to confirm.
SPECIAL EVENT ONLY, offered in March. A sensory program immersing students in an atmosphere that promotes appreciation for and protection of park resources. • Grade levels: Preschool - 3rd Why are the leaves changing colors? Why do the animals seem so busy? Come learn of fall activities and adaptations that plants and animals use to prepare for winter. • Grade levels: 1st - 6th Discover and explore the diverse habitats of Indiana Dunes National Park. • Grade levels: 4th - 12th Learn how wind, waves, and plants work together to form dunes. Understand the concept of succession through exploration of the trail’s varied landscapes. Discover the ways in which humans have altered the dunes and what we can do to help them prosper. Come to the Douglas Center and learn about the lives of our native creatures through a live action puppet show. • Grade levels: Preschool - 2nd grade Students will understand how plants and animals adapt to survive the winter through discussion and hiking. We’ll explore animal tracking and uncover predator/prey relationships in the process. • Grade levels: All
