Ocean Shoreline Visualizers

The Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network monitors the position of ocean shorelines as a vital sign of ecosystem health at our parks. Below are interactive maps that help visualize shoreline change rates at some of our coastal parks over a five-year monitoring period. The maps show annual shoreline positions and have color-coded transects that run perpendicular to the shoreline. Red hues indicate erotion rates. Blue hues indicate accretion rates. The darker the hue, the greater the rate of change at that location. For those who want to dive deeper, the maps also allow you to explore the statistics and protocols involved in calculating shoreline change rates. You can also view five-year trend reports in the maps.
