The ensatina can usually be found under logs or brush near or in streams, lakes, and other moist places in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

One of our primary goals is to develop and maintain certified species lists for vascular plants and vertebrate animals in each network park. These lists are maintained in NPSpecies, which is the master biodiversity database for the National Park Service. Lists in NPSpecies are works in progress, and may change as new information becomes available.
