What We Inventory

A natural resource inventory is an extensive, survey at a specific point in time. Inventories assess and document the current condition of specific natural resources in network parks. This information provides a solid baseline for long-term monitoring and management.

The national Inventory and Monitoring Division provides guidance, funding, and technical help for a set of 12 basic natural resource inventories at 270 parks. These basic inventories help park managers better understand and manage natural resources.

A planning process is underway for "Inventories 2.0," which will apply what we've learned and move us to the next phase of baseline inventory data needed to manage parks into the future.
