Field Trip Information for Parents and Students

 

Haleakalā National Park is home to many rare and endangered plants and animals. We are all caretakers of this fragile native habitat. Please come prepared to explore and have fun. We ask that everyone follows park rules during your visit and these Leave No Trace Principles:

Plan Ahead and Prepare

What to Wear (Required):

  • Hat with wide brim
  • Rain gear
  • Layered warm clothing
  • Jacket
  • Long pants
  • Socks
  • Comfortable, sturdy, closed-toe shoes (no sandals/slippers)

What to Bring (Required):

  • Sunscreen
  • Water Bottle
  • Lip Balm
  • Snacks
  • Lunch–You will have access to picnic tables, restrooms, and potable water. (No access to refrigerator or microwave).

What to Leave Behind:

  • Electronics: iPods, iPads, cell phones, cameras, etc.
  • Money or other valuables

Travel on Durable Surfaces

Please stay on trails.

Dispose of Waste Properly

You are responsible for picking up your own trash after snacks and lunch.

Leave What You Find

Taking rocks, flowers, feathers, or any other natural object hurts the park.

Minimize Impacts

Food is prohibited during the program except at designated times.

Respect Wildlife

Respect both the plants and animals of the park by watching from a distance and not feeding them.

Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Respect the rights of others to enjoy Haleakalā National Park by respecting each other, the rangers, chaperones, and teachers. Stay with your group, keep hands to yourself, talk quietly, and give the speaker your full attention.
