Theodore Roosevelt Island, VA. – Sunday Nov. 1, 2015, visit Theodore Roosevelt Island and celebrate President Theodore Roosevelt's 157th Birthday between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Activities include: birdhouse-making; Junior Ranger Program; games; displays; nature hikes; island scavenger hunt, special exhibits highlighting additional National Park Service sites connected to our nation's 26th President, cutting of the cake, and more. Come out and "#Find Your Park." All activities are free and appropriate for all ages. Theodore Roosevelt Island preserves 88 acres of forest, marsh and swamp lands with 2 ½ miles of trails. An urban oasis dedicated to a man with an incredible conservation legacy. The memorial plaza with its impressive statue of Theodore Roosevelt pays tribute to his passion for the earth's natural places and foresight in planning for their preservation. Theodore Roosevelt Island is located on the George Washington Memorial Parkway traveling westbound between the Roosevelt Bridge and Key Bridge. The parking lot is on the right about 1/8 mile past the merge ramp exiting the Roosevelt Bridge or by bicycle along the Mount Vernon Trail. Via public transportation, exit the Rosslyn Metro Station, walk toward the Key Bridge and follow a short connecting trail downhill off the right side of the bridge, across the parkway, and into the parking lot at TheodoreRoosevelt Island. |
